The Campground

Chetumal (Calderitas) Quintana Roo, Mexico

Just changed out Maya Backpackers Hostel to a campground for tents. The prices are better too. $5.00 U.S. a night to camp. The Campground is fenced. We have a shower, flush toilet and sink Nice big 15 ft by 25 ft. Mayan Palapa for a common room. Lots of books to read, DVD player with DVD's. Large TV. Game Boy. Board Games and Cards. Places to sit inside and tables and chair to eat. We also have outside tables and chairs. A German Shepperd Female is our guard dog on duty. We have a charcol grill for use of our guests. We do rent some tents for the folks who didn't bring theirs. But you have to put them up yourself. We are about 1,000 ft from the bay of Chetumal in the village of Calderitas just 3/10 of a km north east of Chetumal. We have several small inexpensive resturants within a short distance. Also stores to buy food. We speak English here and have a part time boy who speaks Espanol and Carribean English.

The Combi comes right down out street from the center of Chetumal. Cost is 3 pesos. You take the Calderitas combi the first turn left into Calderitas is our street. Our address is Calle Durango #108. If you get out at the corner where he has to stop and turn right. Just back up to the 5th house and you will see our address sign 108 Durango with the birds on the sign. Pull the bell cord and someone will greet you. It is my old ships bell. Use to be on the Navette owned by J.P. Morgan. If you are old you may know who that is. If your are younger you may not.

If you take a taxi from the bus station, just give them this address and they will bring you right to the door. Up to 4 in a taxi is no more than $30.00 pesos. That is less than $3.00 U.S. Calle Durango #108 Entre: 24 DeFebero y Coahulia, Col. Veracruz, CALDERITAS

While backpacking myself I loved the campgrounds better myself. More privacy, no one bothers you and they are usually fenced and safe. The price is right too. Hostels are getting to pricy for me too. There are no other campgrounds in the area. All money goes to support a childrens home. So your $5.00 is a donation.

Our phone number if you are calling from the U.S. is: 850-417-8545 This is a Pensacola, Fl number that will ring here as long as my computer is on. If not leave a voice message and I will return your call. My cell phone number in Mexico is 983-119-9078.
